Each year Yeppoon State School participates in the Australian schools competitions arranged by the University of NSW. The competitions give students, and their parents and teachers, the opportunity to gain a measure of their level of achievement against peers in an external assessment situation. This competition is open to all students in Year 3 to 7 and cover the areas of Science, Mathematics, Writing, Spelling, English and Computer skills. Students also find participation stimulating and rewarding.

The papers cater for the whole range of student abilities as well as challenging the very able students. The experience of operating under test conditions can be valuable in assisting students with similar circumstances in Year 3, 5 and 7 nationwide tests as well as secondary school.
